Hi Everyone! We are so excited to finally have this up and running! Yes–this is a travel blog–but we thought first we needed to tell you “Our Story”, of how we/and all of this “travel” came to be.

David and I met way back (roughly 40 years ago) when we were teens through our church youth group. Our good friends, Scott and Nancy were “dating”, so David and I always tagged along with them everywhere. We never dated each other, but where you found one of us, you usually found the other!

After high school, I went to Miami, FL to Associated Travel School, which was a school preparing students for a career in the travel industry. I had always wanted to become a flight attendant, but after being away from home a few months, I got really homesick — so right after school ended, I headed back to my home in VA. I started working at a travel agency, which was owned by two “older” travel agents. What’s so funny about this is they hired me at age 17 and sent me straight back to Miami for two weeks so I could learn all about their new computer system (hosted by Eastern Air Lines) and come back and teach them. I was also appointed the “Cruise Specialist” at the agency, even though I had never been on a cruise in my life! (not to worry, I’ve been on a few since then). After about 8 months at the travel agency, I met the marketing rep for Delta Air Lines, and left the agency to begin my 24 year career at Delta Air Lines in Richmond, VA. I was 18 years old.

David and I crossed paths again as we were both volunteers at our local Rescue Squad, and happened to be on the same “squad shift”. Once again, we never dated each other, but always looked forward to our shift each week as we knew we would be hanging out together. Well, life took David and I in different directions: He left our hometown and went to Kansas to begin his rather bumpy, unpredictable airline career. During that time he married and had three children: Tori (now age 27), Jackie (age 24), and Andrew (age 21). They lived all over the country, as David worked for several airlines during that time. I, on the other hand, remained a “hometown” girl, working for Delta in Richmond. I had a baby, and became a single mom to my beautiful daughter, Kelsey (now 30).

I embraced my life in my small town raising my daughter with my wonderful family and network of friends nearby. I never married, and wrote if off to being too busy with my career at Delta (I was in management by this point), and raising a daughter by myself. I couldn’t be bothered!! hahaha. Kelsey and I went on so many adventures together over the years using our “airline perks”. We have so many stories we could share and maybe that will become a part of this site as well–possibly a “looking back” section or similar.

Ok, so in 2008, a year after Kelsey graduated from high school, the economy was bad, and I decided to take an “early retirement” package that Delta was offering and I left the airlines. I then started working at an insurance company, appropriately named Travelers, which I have now retired from as well. So–here is where it gets interesting. Follow me to the next blog post entitled “At Last” to see how our paths finally cross almost 40 years later.
